The Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró a Mallorca is a cultural center located in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, dedicated to preserving and showcasing the legacy of the renowned artist Joan Miró. Established in 1981 by Miró and his wife, Pilar Juncosa, the foundation offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore the artist’s creative universe in the place where he lived and worked for nearly 30 years.
One of the foundation’s highlights is the access to Miró’s personal studios. The Sert Studio, designed by Miró’s friend, architect Josep Lluís Sert, in 1956, served as the artist’s primary workspace.
Additionally, Son Boter, an 18th-century Mallorcan house, functioned as a secondary studio for painting and sculpture. These spaces provide an intimate glimpse into Miró’s artistic process and environment.
The foundation’s architectural ensemble is noteworthy. Alongside the Sert Studio and Son Boter, the Moneo Building, designed by architect Rafael Moneo and inaugurated in 1992, serves as the foundation’s headquarters.
Together, these structures form one of Mallorca’s most significant architectural complexes, blending traditional and modern design elements.
The foundation houses a comprehensive collection of Miró’s works, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, and prints. This collection stems from a generous donation by Miró and Juncosa in 1981, encompassing the contents of his studios and offering deep insights into his creative journey.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of temporary exhibitions that complement the permanent collection. The foundation also organizes workshops, guided tours, and educational programs for all ages, fostering a deeper appreciation of contemporary art and Miró’s legacy.
Located at Carrer de Saridakis, 29, 07015 Palma, the foundation is open to the public with varying hours throughout the year. Guided tours are available, offering detailed insights into Miró’s life and work. For more information on visiting hours, current exhibitions, and activities, please visit the official website
