Events in Sóller: Celebrate the Mallorcan Life

Sant Bartomeu Festivities
Sóller is a place that buzzes with cultural activity throughout the year, attracting both locals and tourists.

One of the highlights of Sóller’s calendar is the celebration of its patron saint, Sant Bartomeu, in August. For about a week, the town dresses up to pay homage to this patron saint in the church and town hall. The patron saint festivities are packed with exciting events, including exhibitions, concerts and exciting equestrian and sporting demonstrations. The culmination of these festivities takes place on the last day, which usually falls on a Sunday, with the performance of the Esclatabutzes, with their fireworks and pyrotechnics show.

Another event of great relevance in the Soller calendar is the commemoration of the Battle of Moors and Christians, better known as El Firó, which takes place in May. This festivity revives a historic battle that took place in 1561, in which the Mallorcans won the victory over the invading corsairs. If you visit Sóller during this time, you will be impressed by the festive decorations that flood the town, with Mallorcan flags flying everywhere, people dressed in period costumes and the enthusiastic participation of the locals.
This is celebrated every year on the second monday of May.

As an alternative to the more traditional celebrations, Sóller hosts the Fira de la Taronja, a gastronomic event that focuses on the sweeter side of life. Here, visitors can enjoy culinary delights at the vast majority of Sóller’s restaurants, explore gastronomic stalls and immerse themselves in a festive atmosphere that celebrates the delicious taste of local oranges. Most of the restaurants have a set menu, which every of its dishes has the orange as ingredient.

 

Getting to Sóller


Soller, although isolated, is relatively well connected to the rest of the island.
It is located only 35 minutes from Palma Airport by cab. It is possible to go by public transport but it takes about an hour and a half.


How do I get there? What options do I have?
– By public cab. As we have mentioned, the journey takes about 35 minutes and should cost between 50,00€ and 65,00€ approximately (depending on the route, traffic, … it may vary). You will find the Palma public cab rank outside the airport building. Palma cabs are always available and also work at night.
– By bus. For this, you would take the EMT bus no. 1, at the airport, which will take you in 15-20 minutes to Plaza España in Palma. Once there, you will have to go to the Intermodal Station, and there take the TIB bus number 204. The journey from there to Sóller is about 30-35 minutes. The total price per person for this trip is about 10,00€.
– By train. To do this, you should also take the EMT bus number 1, or the cab to Plaza España. Once there, you will find the Sóller Railway station in the square, where you can buy tickets. The train ride is 1 hour, so the total journey would be about an hour and a half. The price of the train ticket is about 18,00€ approximately, per person, per way.
